Today couldn’t have been any more perfect to have some fun, drinks and socialise at Melbourne’s biggest day of the year, the Melbourne Cup. For those who aren’t familiar it’s part of the biggest week of the Melbourne calendar; the Spring Racing Carnival.
Mainly based at the G.H. Mumm Marquee, we soaked in some sunshine,
hammered sipped on some beautiful Mumm champagne, experienced my first Moulin Rouge performance and did whatever you’d usually do on these occasions. It was fun!
Traditionally, it’s all about the horse racing and with that calls for some classic racing attire. But me being me, I did the suit thing – monochrome in a blazer, crop and trousers with a statement necklace. Never being the hat or fascinator type, I felt not only more comfortable but stood out amongst a sea of vivid, tight-fitting dresses and hair adornments. I guess I’ve always had my hairstyle and piercings as substitute for any form of head wear. But that’s just me, seldom headed down the traditional route. And you know I’ll jump at any chance to go androgynous (with a twist) and was the best outfit decision I made. With backup head wear aside, I might just wear one on the next race day… we’ll see.
