I know, I know – another monochrome look. But you know what? I can’t help it. I am completely obsessed, and to tell you the truth I always have been but only this year that I’ve embraced the all white look. In earlier years I wore a hell of a lotta all-black outfits, with maybe only one white piece. This year, it’s all about the white, the oversized and the sport luxe styles.
There are so many ways to wear these trends depending on your resources, your time, and of course – your budget. I personally love to mix pieces whether high end or high street, I think label snobbery is phasing out with the help of digital media and style icons such as Rihanna. Absolutely any look is achievable regardless of budget.
Which brings me to this look. I wanted to show how a monochrome, chic and sporty look can be achieved with about $250 to spend. By thinking out of the box and working with what you’ve got – you can get this look – a complete outfit from – wait for it – Target. For under $250. A couple of pieces I already had but the rest from this iconic, pocket-friendly retail giant that for years has been the destination for the stylish woman on a budget. And with limited edition ranges including the Designers for Target, it’s pretty easy to put together an unexpectedly rich and highly fashionable look.
Back to the monochrome thing. I was challenged to put together an inexpensive look from Target that still remained true to my personal style. Thinking outside the box I opted for a bikini halter top ($20) to wear with an oversized blazer ($89) and 7/8 length pants ($69), giving it a sexier, sportier and more on-trend look. I accessorised with a small cross-body bag ($30) to dress it down, then dressing it back up with 2-tone peeptoe sandals ($40).
To be honest – this is up there with my favourite looks. Ticks all my boxes and each piece is classic, great quality and wearable season after season. I know Gok would be proud 😉
So all you ladies (and guys), if you’re looking for affordable fashion and want to update your wardrobe quite frequently – have good shop at Target either in store or online. With everyone’s favourite stylist Gok Wan on board to set a new direction to the brand, you can’t go wrong and if you get creative I guarantee you can emulate a designer look on a budget.
