My first car feature on the new site! I wanted to kick it off with something in-between, but still very good. The new Volvo V40 T5 R-Design. Not your average Volvo model, as we all know Volvo is synonymous with safety and the preferred vehicle choice of older people. But I think this particular model may be a little too youthful and fast for its mature market.
We’ve driven and reviewed a lot of cars this year and this is is definitely the one with the most surprises. Being Volvo the safety features are a given, with complete 360 degree radar and airbags that surround the driver and passengers, alerting the driver for pretty much any reason. It even has crash detection. But for those who are confident enough with their own driving skills, these safety features and alarm bells can be switched off.
That all being said, this car has some speed. With 187KW this thing has some grunt, with smooth transitions – probably the smoothest I’ve ever experienced, the automatic gear changes from zero to pedal to the metal is easy, soft and super smooth. The sound is also very different to the rest, it’s not showy or trying to be loud at all. It’s just really good sounding. That’s all.
The interior is luxurious with pretty much everything you need; the dashboard is completely digital (I think all cars should have this feature), all-leather interior with completely adjustable front seats, easy iPhone connectivity, and – did I mention it’s 5-door? It’s deceivingly spacious and comfortably seats five people.
Overall this medium-sized, chilli-coloured beast is a great car for anyone who wants a ride that’s a little more on the youthful and sporty side, safe with a bit of power, good-looking and luxurious. For full specs, details and pricing visit volvocars.com/au.
