All. Black. Everything. It’s like a mantra – an affirmation, almost. “When in doubt, wear black”… “I’ll stop wearing black if they invent a different colour”… I could go on. Welcome to the second style story for my Westfield Own Your Story campaign. This one, I think you’ll find very relatable…
Every day we’re faced with challenges – one of the most important to us fashion-conscious beings (which is quite superficial, I know) is – what the hell am I gonna wear today? As a blogger, I still face this first world problem of having nothing to wear despite a closet (and a spare room plus two storage rooms) full of clothes, shoes and accessories. I have CDD – a term I coined just now – clothing deficit disorder. I feel like I always need more and more, almost like an addiction. There’s no such thing as enough or too many. Never really satisfied with what I have, but make always make it work. Feels like it’d be a crime to wear the same outfit or item of clothing twice. But you know I’m not really that crazy. Most of the time…
The solution? Like any normal individual, wear black. All black everything. It’s the most fail-safe plan. It’s also modest, sophisticated, classic, timeless and a little bit mysterious. Not to mention slimming and very non age, gender or size discriminating. Although, nailing an all black look is a science and an art. There’s a fine line between looking too ‘corporatey’, too ‘officey’ or too ‘funerally’ when wearing an all black attire. The idea is to not blend in, but to stand out through clever and creative use of composition, proportion, texture and silhouette. Whether you’re going to work, going out for drinks or going to a special event – there are tons of ways to create an all black look that you want that will turn heads for the right reasons.
For this look, I wanted to create something that was chic, timeless, authoritative, feminine and perfect for going out. I’ve a ton of other all black looks I could show you that are so much more casual, but styling something in between is generally what people seek assistance with. Everyone must have a classic structured blazer, statement top, elegant trousers and sexy high heels – not to mention some gorgeous gold jewellery and accessories. Here I’ve worked around this classic, sharp-shouldered black Carla Zampatti blazer – which goes with pretty much anything and everything, it’s a staple and a must have. I opted for elegance so I styled with a modest but detailed corset, fluid and slightly flared bottom trousers and some super high strappy heels. As a psycho for consistency I accessorised with some gold Amber Sceats jewellery to co-ordinate with the gold buttons. This entire look, and plenty more black fashion items – all available at westfield.com.au. I could spend hours on that site, but I’ve done my best to set some direction for y’all looking for a classy all-black ensemble. And if you do find a thing or two to bring your next all black outfit to fruition, don’t forget to share it using the hashtag #ownyourstory.
So go on – embrace your own unique style and own your (all black) story!
